MEDENA PITKA Children Folklore Group organically interweaves knowledge of traditional Bulgarian rituals related to the Bulgarian calendar and practical learning of Bulgarian rhythms, songs, and dances.

MEDENA PITKA has an educational purpose. Simultaneously, because of its combined music and dance foundation, it is a program that is also oriented toward performances that are open to the Bulgarian community and friends. The program’s overall aim is to stimulate children’s growth by providing a cultural environment where they will learn to sing in Bulgarian, dance the Bulgarian way, and become familiar with the Bulgarian traditional arts and crafts.

Children’s first appearance on stage, along with their parents, was in December 2013, when BCHCS received a 4 Culture grant for “Together for Christmas” Bulgarian Show at Kirkland Performance Center. Since then, they participate in every year’s Bulgarian Christmas concert. They also performed several times at “Zlaten Orfei” Annual Bulgarian Children Talent Show, NW Folklife Festival, Seattle Children’s Festival, hosted by Northwest Folklife, the International Children’s Friendship Festivals (since 2016), and more.
